Description

Frozen Asian Sea Bass from China

Asian sea bass, also known as Chinese sea bass, Asian sea bass, Japanese Seabass or Hua Lu, is farm-raised in Baijiao Town, Zhuhai, China(Lateolabrax japonicus), is one of the most commonly farmed fish species in southern China.
Our sea bass is farm-raised in Baijiao, Zhuhai, a coastal area with stable brackish water conditions and a long warm season, suitable for consistent aquaculture production.

What Is Asian Sea Bass

Asian sea bass is a euryhaline fish, meaning it can live in both seawater and low-salinity environments.
The species spawns in seawater and migrates to brackish or near-freshwater areas during its growth stage, where feed efficiency and growth rates are higher.
This natural characteristic makes Asian sea bass suitable for controlled farming and steady supply.

Sea Bass Farming in Zhuhai, China

Baijiao Town is located near the South China Sea and south of the Tropic of Cancer.
The region maintains suitable water temperatures for sea bass growth for most of the year, allowing longer growing cycles and natural overwintering.
Zhuhai has become one of the main sea bass production areas in China, supplying both domestic consumption and export markets.

Processing and Freezing Method

After harvesting, the fish is processed in an EU-approved facility and frozen using liquid nitrogen quick-freezing technology.
This method rapidly lowers the core temperature, helping reduce moisture loss and maintain flesh structure during frozen storage and transportation.

No. Asian sea bass (Lateolabrax japonicus) is different from Chilean sea bass (Patagonian toothfish).
They are different species with different origins, farming methods, and market positioning.

– Can frozen sea bass be customized for different markets?

Yes. Product size, cutting style, packaging format, and labeling can be adjusted according to customer requirements and destination markets.

– Why is Asian seabass also called Japanese sea bass?

  • Asian seabass is sometimes called Japanese seabass because its scientific name is Lateolabrax japonicus.

  • The species was originally described from specimens found in Japan, which is reflected in the Latin name (japonicus = “of Japan”).

  • The term “Japanese seabass” reflects taxonomic history, not current farming location.

  • Today, this species is widely farmed in China and other East Asian countries, but the historical name persists in international trade.
